Keeping up as a high school student is no small feet. Factor in sports, Honors/AP classes, clubs, work, practices, trainings, etc., and the struggle is real. Think about it, a student-athlete doesn’t get home until 10:00pm, but has a chemistry final in the morning. And what about that student who works until 11:00pm, but has a paper to write and turn in the next day! So, what are they and all high school student/student-athletes to do? Quit your job? Stop playing your sport? No, neither have to occur. But, there are certain things that do need to occur so that your 2024-2025 school year is not so much of a struggle! I call these the TOP 5, and here they are…
Stay Organized
It is important to set up a designated study space that’s quiet and free of distractions. Keep track of assignments, tests, and extracurricular activities using some type of planner. Keep track of deadlines. Set reminders for important dates to avoid last-minute stress.
Time Management

Good Study Habits
Find your study style, whether it’s visual aids, flashcards, or group study sessions. Find what works best for you. Set aside dedicated time each day for studying and stick to it. Review regularly, don’t just cram before exams, or wait till the last minute to write a paper, etc. It’s important to establish good study habits early and stay consistent with them.
Self-Care
Aim for a consistent sleep schedule to stay healthy and focused. Eat balanced meals and stay hydrated. If you are not a student-athlete, incorporate physical activity into your routine to help manage stress.
Balance
Find healthy ways to cope with stress, such as exercise, meditation, or talking to a trusted friend or counselor. Pursue hobbies or interests, join clubs, or other extracurricular activities that you’re passionate about. Your social life is important, but it should never overwhelm your personal, academic, sport, and other responsibilities. Find a balance that works for you.
