Are you a student-athlete, or the parent of one, who is looking to play your sport at the next level, and want to contact college coaches? Wondering how? This post is for you!
If you are an athlete who has not been contacted by any college coaches, then you need to put yourself on their radar. There are several ways to do this. Let’s start with contacting them!
The best way to introduce yourself is to email the coach of the college(s) you are interested in attending. An introductory email is a great way to introduce yourself to the coach, provide your information and briefly highlight some of your accomplishments.
How to email college coaches can be found Here.

Call
Follow up your email with a phone call. But, keep in mind that there is a window for when college coaches are allowed to speak with athletes. Coach contact depends on your age, sport, division level and the type of communication. Generally speaking, coaches can begin reaching out to athletes starting June 15 after your sophomore year or September 1 of your junior year.
Go here for specific contact periods according to your sport(s).
Keeping in Touch
Keep in touch with the coach(s) you have reached out to. Show them that you have a genuine interest in their program. Update them on your accomplishments, awards, stats, etc. Let them know when you plan a visit, and want to set up a meeting; invite them to a tournament you’ll be competing in. Keep those lines of communication open.
Respond, Respond, Respond
Never leave a coach hanging… waiting to hear back from you! Whether it is a phone call, email, or something that comes to you in the mail, always promptly respond! Respect their time by taking a few minutes to respond. Making a coach wait to hear back from you tells that coach a little something about your character!
The most important takeaway is to reach out, and keep those lines of communication open, by continuing to reach out! Good luck in your journey to finding your right fit!
