Recovering from a sports-related concussion takes time, rest, and careful steps back into activity. Here’s a guide to your recovery.
CONCUSSION RECOVERY

REPORT & REST
FOLLOW MEDICAL ADVICE
After a concussion, it’s important to be checked by a healthcare provider and carefully follow their recovery and return-to-play plan. Never try to push through, “tough it out,” or hide your symptoms, as this can make the injury worse and delay healing.
GRADUAL RETURN
Recovery usually follows a step-by-step process:
1. Complete Rest – No sports, limit mental strain.
2. Light Activity – Walking or light movement, no contact.
3. Moderate Exercise – Jogging, biking, or light drills.
4. Sport-Specific Drills – No contact, but more intense practice.
5. Full-Contact Practice – Only with medical clearance.
6. Return to Play – Full competition once symptom-free.
WATCH FOR SYMPTOMS
If your symptoms come back at any point during recovery, pause and give yourself more time to rest. You should only move on to the next step once you are completely symptom-free.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
👉 Most important: Don’t return to play until a healthcare provider says it’s safe. Coming back too soon can put you at risk for a more serious injury.
